Elimination of viral hepatitis: a challenge of the century.
Modern medicine differentiates between hepatitis A, B, C, and E, but B and C hepatitis are the most common. Hepatitis B and C are transmitted through blood. This means that one can become infected through blood transfusions, various medical procedures, as well as in beauty salons during manicure, pedicure, and tattoo procedures. Hepatitis can also be contracted during unprotected sexual intercourse.
There is also a so-called horizontal transmission system whereby the infected mother can transmit the virus to her child during childbirth. What modern medicine offers is presented by Hasmik Ghazinyan, president of the Armenian Hepatology Association and head of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology service at "Yerevan" Medical Center.
